Texte et image sont pour moi une seule et même chose. Tous deux sont faits de lignes, de formes et de couleurs combinables à l‘infini.

Le sens des textes que vous avez sous les yeux dans cette exposition est secondaire. Le plus souvent, il est la conséquence d’une intervention sur les éléments constitutifs du texte par retrait, addition ou mixage des lettres et des mots. L’œil prend ici la main sur le message. Parfois, c’est le support lui-même ou la technique utilisée qui détermine le sens du texte (miroir, métal gravé). D’autres fois, il s’agit du contrepied d’une formule toute faite ou d’un lieu commun.

Je procède de façon identique pour mes dessins. À partir de photos de classe d’enfants ou d’identité, lieux communs photographiques dont je conserve l’esthétique, j’ajoute ou retranche un élément avec l’idée ici de réinventer l’iconographie du panthéon grec.

Je suis très attentif à la mise en scène de mon travail. En usant d’impressions pigmentaires réalisées à partir des dessins originaux et d’impressions typographiques pour les textes, je multiplie les formats et combinaisons avec pour constante une gamme noir/blanc/rouge. Le cadre fait partie intégrante du processus de mise en scène et participe au contenu d’une œuvre. La répétition des images et des textes sous des mises en scènes différentes augmente l’impact visuel. Pour rythmer le tout, j’intercale peintures sur toile, miroirs et métaux gravés.

"Het oog ziet zoals de hand neemt" (Paul Nougé)

Voor mij zijn tekst en beeld één en hetzelfde. Beide bestaan uit lijnen, vormen en kleuren die tot in het oneindige gecombineerd kunnen worden. 

De betekenis van de teksten die je in deze tentoonstelling ziet, is ondergeschikt. Vaak is het een gevolg van een ingreep in de samenstellende elementen van de tekst door letters en woorden te verwijderen, toe te voegen of te vermengen.

Hier neemt het oog de controle over de boodschap. Soms is het medium zelf of de gebruikte techniek die de betekenis van de tekst bepaalt (spiegel, gegraveerd metaal). Andere keren is het tegenovergestelde van een ready-made formule.

Met mijn tekeningen ga ik op dezelfde manier te werk. Klasfoto’s van kinderen of identiteitsfoto's, met alledaagse fotografische motieven vormen het vertrekpunt, waarvan ik de esthetiek bewaar. Ik voeg een element toe of neem een element weg met het idee om de iconografie van het Griekse pantheon opnieuw uit te vinden.

Ik besteed veel zorg aan de presentatie van mijn werk. Ik vermenigvuldig pigment afdrukken van de originele tekeningen en typografische afdrukken voor de teksten in verschillende vormen in combinatie van een constant scala van zwart, wit en rood.  Het kader is een integraal onderdeel van het werk en draagt bij aan de inhoud ervan. De herhaling van beeld en tekst op verschillende manieren verhoogt de visuele impact. Om dit geheel te benadrukken, wissel ik schilderijen op doek af met spiegels en gegraveerd metaal.

"The eye sees as the hand takes" (Paul Nougé)

For me, text and image are one and the same thing. Both are made up of lines, shapes and colours that can be combined infinitely. 

The meaning of the texts you see in this exhibition is secondary. Most of the time, it is the consequence of an intervention in the text by removing, adding or mixing letters and words. Here, the eye takes control of the message. Sometimes it is the medium itself or the technique used that determines the meaning of the text (mirror, engraved metal). At other times, it's the opposite of a ready-made formula.

I proceed in the same way with my drawings. By using children's class photos or identity photographs, popular photographic motifs whose aesthetic I preserve, I add or delete an element with the idea, in this case, of reinventing the iconography of the Greek Pantheon.

I put great care in the presentation of my work. Using pigment prints made from the original drawings and letterpress prints for the texts, I multiply the formats and combinations with a constant range of black/white/red. The frame is an integral part of the display process and is an important part of the work. Repeating images and texts in different settings increases the visual impact. To punctuate the whole, I intersperse paintings on canvas, mirrors and engraved metal.
